Obituary of Mary Morrone

Mrs. Mary R. Morrone, 91, of Amsterdam passed away Tuesday February 27, 2018 at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam. Born on May 8, 1926 in Amsterdam, a daughter of the late Anthony and Angelina Morabito Giuffre. She was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and attended local schools. Mary was employed at the former Hannover Dress Shop in Amsterdam. She later worked for Coleco Industries. She last worked for many years as a Cafeteria cook for the Greater Amsterdam School District working until she was 80. She was a communicant of the former St. Michael the Archangel R.C. Church and was Past President of the Altar Rosary Society. She currently was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Mary was an avid bowler in the Women's City League and the former Crosstown League. She also was a member of the Mt. Carmel Women's Bocce League. She married Salvatore Morrone in May of 1947. He passed away on May 10, 1983. Mary is survived by her children, Paul A. (Susan) Morrone of Greenville, N.C., Donna (Dan) Quandt of Amsterdam. Three cherished grandchildren, Ryan (Christa) Morrone of Gloversville, NY, Jason (Suenn) Morrone of Apopka, FL, and Sarah Quandt and her husband Elliot Baird of Saratoga, NY. One brother, Joseph Guiffre of Tribes Hill, NY. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was predeceased by her siblings, Anthony Guiffre Jr., Frank Guiffre, Thomas Guiffre and Lena Lopez. Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 3, 2018 at 11:00AM at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Father Pascal "Pat" Iannotti presiding. Interment will be at a later date in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday March 2, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery County Office for the Aging, Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
