Obituary of Thomas A. Spagnola

The Village of Hagaman New York will never be the same after the passing of Thomas "Spag" Spagnola, proud owner of the center of town, Tom's Tavern. On April 17, 1941, Tom was born in Valley Falls, New York to Louis and Elizabeth Spagnola. He was a 1959 graduate of William H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam and an Army Veteran who served from 1963 to 1966. He started driving a truck for his father's company Midline Construction and logged a lifetime of miles driving a truck for Cumberland Transport, Treck Transport, and others before owning his own company called TAS Express. He is survived by siblings: Pat Frollo (Lou) , Bobby Spagnola (Edwina) and Janice Guliani and his children: Christine Dietrick (Mark), Tommy Spagnola (Jess Mancuso) , Jamie Hillhouse, Sherri McLoughlin (Drew) and Louie Spagnola (Erin Schotts) He lived for his loving and adoring grandchildren : Ashley Spagnola, Amanda Mullarkey, Tyler Hillhouse, Ryan Mullarkey, Lyman Bartlett, Kailey Spagnola, Aidan McLoughlin, Broderick Bartlett, and Gianna Spagnola and would spend hours talking to anyone who would listen about how much joy they brought to his life. His family extended to the patrons of his three establishments over 50 years in the bar business. There are stories upon stories of a lifetime of memories in The Country Inn, Spag's Tavern and Tom's Tavern. If the walls could speak, they would tell you that hundreds of people of present and past were not the customers of the bar or the friend of the owner, they were an extension of his family and he loved them all. He will be dearly missed by all who were honored to know the legendary Tom Spagnola. Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 1, 2018 at 12:30PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY with Father O. Robert DeMartinis presiding. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Hagaman Mills Cemetery, Hagaman, NY. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Thursday, March 1, 2018 11:30 to 12:30 PM at the funeral home.
