Obituary of William C. Coons

William C. Coons, age 76, of Gloversville, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, with his loving family at his side, following a brief illness. He was born March 27, 1941 in Amsterdam, the son of Clarence and Vera Robinson Coons. He served in the Army National Guard until 1969. He was employed as a supervisor by General Electric Co. in Schenectady, retiring after 32 years of service. Bill enjoyed visiting the Racino and was well-known for his photography skills. He always had his cameras available with him wherever he traveled. He enjoyed going out to socialize with everyone. He was the Historian for the Broadalbin American Legion Post #337 and the American Legion Riders and the American Legion Color Guard. He was also a member of the Gloversville Moose, Concordia Club, Mayfield Servicemen's Club, Tribes Hill Fish and Game Club, Forrester's Club and the 25 Year Club at General Electric. Bill is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Ruthann Oathout Coons; three daughters, Lisa Campo (John) of Clifton Park, Michelle Esposito (Frank) of Waterford and Sherry Pettit (Chuck) of Gloversville; two brothers, Nelson Coons (Joyce) of Amsterdam and Robert Coons of Johnstown; seven grandsons, Joseph and Anthony Campo, Jacob Esposito (Alyssa Gullotto), Buzz (Tessa), Joshua (Shauna Duesler), Corey (Heather McGrail) and Cody Pettit; six great-grandchildren, Anna Mae, Charlie, Annabelle, Hunter, Tucker and Dakota Pettit. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 25 at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 West Main Street, Broadalbin, where a Funeral Service will take place 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Legion Post 337, 19 N. Main St. Broadalbin, NY 12025. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff at Nathan Liitauer Hospital.
