Obituary of George E. Chew

In his daughter’s arms, George Chew, 89, unexpectedly went home Sat; Mar. 3, 2018. Born Oct. 8, 1928 in Castleton, NY to Charles Albert and Levilla (Cameron) Chew, George was the youngest of six: Albert, Eleanor, Rita, Victor and James. A graduate of Saratoga, attended the Univ. of MD, and served active duty for the U.S. Air Force. As Manufacturing Engineer, he worked at GE Sch’dy for 40 years. Hobbies included working in his woodshop in our home on Mann Rd. in Ballston Spa, Rev. War History buff, chess and sailing.

A daughter’s tribute: Dad, you were the greatest, wisest most honorable man I have ever known. You were a man of integrity. You loved your Heavenly Father, your family, friends, Country, and forever loved our mother, your beautiful bride of over 60 years, Elizabeth. You adoringly called each other, “Love”. You and mom raised our family of four: Donald, Cheryl, David and Bradley, along with much loved pets. Relatives, friends and neighbors loved you and mom, and were always welcomed in your home. Family vacations were filled with fun and adventure; many on Sacandaga Lake and Sand Island, and in the Adirondacks, with all six of us, plus a friend or two, and our loyal companions, Sully and Flossy. We swam, hiked most trails and High Peaks, x-country skied, canoed, and sailed. Growing up, you supported our interests and were a loyal spectator of our school activities and sports. There’s nothing like seeing your dad in the bleechers, cheering you on. Losing you, like any devoted loving parent, truly is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know. Out of love and admiration, and a knowledge of your unending faith, I say with certainty:

I know you’re in Heaven sailing on the crest of God’s glorious golden waters! The Angels have raised the anchor and hoisted the sails of your weathered yet solid and sturdy vessel, gliding gracefully over the glistening Sea of Life. By your side, co-piloting the helm, navigating with ease over the ever changing ebb tide, bound for the shores of Eternal Life, is your Heavenly Father, Master of your ship.

Near the end of your long and beautiful earthly journey, your faith was challenged. You encountered an unanticipated storm. Like thieves in the night, you and your bride were robbed of completing your journey together. Though you tried to restore what God brought together, shallow souls of men lacked a moral compass. Lost at sea, they unjustly attacked. Shredding your sails your ship nearly ceased. Despite losing all that was precious to you, you never lost faith! Because of your unfailing faith, you are no longer the burdened vessel, you are the privileged vessel! You have earned the Right-of-Way! No one can toss you off course now. There are no storms or tears in Heaven; only perfect peace, love and joy.

We dearly love and miss our caring captain. Sail on dad, to the golden shores of Heaven where one day, you, your bride and loved ones, will be together again.

2 Tim 4:7 I have fought the good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith.
