Obituary of Ruth Sochin Family

With much sadness we announce the death of Ruth (Sochin) Family, 94, in Storrs, CT on April 8, 2018. Daughter of David and Jane Sochin (both of blessed memory) of Amsterdam, NY, Ruth is survived by beloved daughters Susan (Michael) Zito of Storrs, CT and Debra (John, of blessed memory) Brennan of Washington, D.C., grandchildren Nicole (Richard Lehrer) Zito, Sarah (Michael) Wyman, Ari (Charlotte) Zito, Zachary (Vanessa) Brennan, and Cody (Kyle) Jackson, and six great-grandchildren.

Ruth's memory will live on through her family as well as her many beautiful oil paintings. Ruth lived most of her life in Niskayuna, NY, where she raised her family. A graduate of SUNY Albany with a bachelor's degree in Commerce and Latin, she taught English and Latin in Schenectady at Mont Pleasant High School and Central Park Junior High School. Ruth enjoyed gathering with family and friends, making art, being an active member of Congregation Agudat Achim, volunteering at St. Claire's Hospital, and attending plays, the ballet, and the symphony.

The funeral was held on April 10, 2018 at Temple of Israel Cemetery in Amsterdam. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth's memory to a charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation of Storrs, CT for their dedicated care.
