Mr. Gene Charles “Papaws” Baker, age 56, of Caroga Lake, passed away peacefully September 13, 2018 at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville with his family and friends at his bed side.
He was born August 22, 1962 in Gloversville, the son of the late Clarence Brown and Estelle Baker. He was employed as a Frame Operator by Lee Dye Textile Inc. of Gloversville for over 20 years. Gene also operated a Saw Mill for several years.
One of Gene’s many life accomplishments was building his dream home on East Caroga Lake. Gene loved collecting antiques, going to garage sales and auctions (#240), taking boat rides with his family, and most of all spending time with his puppies.
Gene is survived by a daughter; Amber Baker (Mo Conte), two sons; David (Brittany) Baker, and Michael Baker, a brother; James (Cheri) Baker, three granddaughters; Georgia Baker, Olyvia DeRocker, Claire Conte, two grandsons; Zander Baker and Landon DeRocker, along with several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 12:00PM to 2:00PM, Friday September 21, 2018 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville where a Funeral Service will immediately follow at 2:00PM, with the family friend Bobby Bulger officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Mountain Valley Hospice and/or Amsterdam NYOH Cancer Center.
