Ms. Mary C. Simiele, 95, of Amsterdam passed away peacefully on Monday, April 15, 2019 at River Ridge Living Center, surrounded by her family. Born on March 10, 1924, she was daughter of the late Carl and Rose (DiSanto) Simiele. She graduated in 1942 from the Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam, and went on to attend and graduate from the Amsterdam School of Commerce. Mary was first employed by General Electric Company in Schenectady for some time before going to work for Bigelow Sanford Carpet Mills in Amsterdam in the Personnel Department. Mary was last employed at the Fiberglass Industries as the Personnel Manager retiring in 1984.
Mary was a Parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Amsterdam. She was a member of the Christian Women's Group and the Mt. Carmel Seniors. She enjoyed knitting, bus trips with her family and friends to the various Casinos, and golfing at the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course.
Mary was predeceased by her parents Carl and Rose, brothers Joseph Simiele and PFC Eugene Simiele of the US Army who was killed during the Korean War. Survivors include her sister, Virginia Houlihan of Amsterdam and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 11:00a.m. at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 39 St. John St., Amsterdam. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call on May 18, 2019 at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Roman Catholic Church between the hours of 9:00a.m. and 11:00a.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church 39 St John St, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to Community Hospice of Amsterdam 246 Manny Corners Rd, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
