Leo Dopp

Obituary of Leo B. Dopp

Leo B. Dopp, 84, of Amsterdam, NY, has gone to his eternal rest on Thursday, December 13th, 2018 with his loving family by his side.

Leo was born on May 13, 1934 in Amsterdam, New York and attended local schools. He married the love of his life Stasia Motyka on October 25th, 1955. It was a blessed and strong union that lasted 63 incredible years.

Leo was employed for many years and retired from Fiberglass Industries formally of Amsterdam New York.  He graduated from the Dornier Technical School of Charlotte, North Carolina and held the position of industrial machine technician and plant manager.

Leo was wonderful person who was quick witted and was never short of a smart remark. Anywhere he went, he was the life of the party and people loved to be around him. Leo was a family man who enjoyed many family parties, camping, and yearly Old Orchard Beach Maine vacations. He had a love for animals, old westerns, and current events and just loved life in general.  Leo loved being in the woods, “God’s country.” as he called it. He often took his family camping and taught his children the importance of keeping the land clean and how to survive in the woods.  When he wasn’t camping and teaching his children how to build things or survival skills, he would be hunting, fishing and/or painting which he also enjoyed to do.

Leo is survived by his beloved wife, Stasia Dopp; his children, John L. (Marie) Dopp, Anastasia Squillace, Kevin (Robin) Dopp, Lisa Lewis, Steven (Mary) Dopp, and Diana (Dan) Keiley; 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; and his brother William Dopp. Many more loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Leo is predeceased by his dear parents, Homer and Viola Dopp, his brothers and their respective wives, Homer (Bea) Dopp, Bob (Ester) Dopp, Ed (Eileen) Dopp, Joe (Betty) Dopp, John Dopp, Frank (Elizabeth) Dopp, and Charles Dopp; his sister and her husband, Pearl (John) Osowicki; his son in-law Gene Squillace, and his sister in-law Doris Dopp.
