Obituary of Shirley Markes

     Mrs. Shirley Markes, 69,  of Amsterdam, passed away Friday February 1, 2019 at her home following a brief illness  with her loving family at her side. 

      Born in Amsterdam, NY on December 15, 1949 a daughter of the late Arthur and Irene King Porath.  She was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and was a 1967 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School.

    Shirley was a homemaker who took wonderful care of her family.  Family was the most important aspect of her life.  She enjoyed playing bingo and cards.  She was a wonderful woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

     She married Eugene  R. Markes Sr. on  January 19, 1986.  In addition to her husband Eugene survivors include her children, Rose Porath,   Robert “Bobby” Petruccione,  William “Bill” Petruccione,  Lisa (Thomas Perry Jr.) Petruccione,  Timothy “Timmy” (Crista Sitterly) Petruccione, Philip (Emilly) Markes, Jesse “Mama’s Little Man” Markes, Kenneth E. “Kenny” (Samantha Kilgore) Markes.  Step-children, Eugene “Rusty” (Tina)  Markes, Jr., Kenneth A. (Hope) Markes,  Kandi Sheets.  Grandchildren, Brittany, Dustin, Keith, Eric, Elizabeth, Kaitlyn, Tanner, Nathaniel, Shawna, Nicholas, Jordan, Zachary, Brandon, Kristy, Kyle, Drake, Jacob, Johnathan, Anthony, Adam, Oretta, Virginia, Elizabeth and Joseph.  Two brothers, Oscar and Robert “Bobby” Porath.    Several great-grandchildren, a dear friend,  Linda Gieseler,  nieces, nephews and cousins and pet dog “Scooby”.  Linda

    Shirley was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Irene.  She is also predeceased by her siblings, Art, Fritz, Rosemary, Gail, Doris, June, William and Thomas.   As well as nieces, nephews and cousins and a favorite pet dog “Killer Bee”. 

     Funeral services will be held on Thursday February 7, 2019 at 1:00PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY .  Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday prior to the funeral service from 11:00 AM  to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.   Please leave condolences online at www.brbsfuneral.com
