Obituary of Mildred Hitchcock

Mrs. Mildred L. "Millie" Hitchcock, age 89, of Town of Florida, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 5, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family.  Born in the Town of Florida, New York on May 31, 1929 to the late Melvin and Marie (Auspelmyer) Lampkin, she was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School Class of 1947. Millie first worked at F.W. Woolworth's in Amsterdam for a few years at which time she decided to devote her time to raising a family. Later she was employed for over 25 years at the GTE Corporation, a local Telephone Company, in Johnstown until she retired in 1990. 

Millie was a devoted member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Amsterdam. She was also a member of the Faithful Followers of the church. She was a member and served as a Trustee for the Fort Hunter Free Library.  Millie was a member of the Tribes Hill Iroquois Seniors where she enjoyed the seniors bus trips especially to Maine and Radio City Music Hall in New York City.  She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and baking for her family and friends. A kind and loving person Millie often drove friends and neighbors, who had no other means of transportation, to their appointments.

On March 28, 1948 she was united in marriage to Floyd D. “Junior” Hitchcock who passed away December 19, 1997. She was also predeceased by her brother, Melvin "Bunny" Lampkin.

Her loving family includes four sons, Floyd Robert (Elaine) Hitchcock, Richard M. (Debra) Hitchcock, Ronald H. (Cindy) Hitchcock and Randall C. (Nancy) Hitchcock; three daughters, Susan Nacco, Sharon (Gerry) Power and Linda (John) Dufel; two brothers, William (Barbara) Lampkin and Everett (Ellie) Lampkin;  a sister-in-law, Thelma Lampkin; 21 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren, one great great grandson; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 Millie’s family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Amsterdam for their loving and devoted care.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 11a.m. Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with the Rev. Dr. John Califano presiding.  Interment will take place at Maple Avenue Cemetery in Fultonville at a later date. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday April 10, 2019 from 4p.m. until 7p.m. at the Betz, Rossi, Bellinger Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church 24 Pine St. Amsterdam, NY 12010 or The Community Hospice of Amsterdam 246 Manny Corners Rd, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
