Obituary of Eugene Hernigle Jr.
Eugene R. Hernigle Jr., 62, passed away suddenly on Friday Jul 26, 2019 at his home in Fultonville.
He was born on April 4, 1957 to the late Patricia and Eugene Hernigle Sr. of Fultonville. Gene lived his life on the land he loved so – The Hernigle Farm.
A lifelong area resident he attended local schools and graduated from Fonda Fultonville Central School in the class of 1976. After graduating he opened Gene’s Welding Shop in Fultonville, a family business that is still open to this day.
Gene will be sadly missed as part of this larger community. Anyone that knew Gene knew of his love for family and community and his loving capacity for life. His love for cooking will always be remembered, as well as his love for his Harleys and trips away for bike fun which were always great memories he liked to share with his friends and family.
Eugene is survived by his sons Eugene (Erin) Hernigle III, and Craig Hernigle, brothers Frank (Kim) Hernigle, Gary (Andrea) Hernigle, and Chris (Sandra) Hernigle, as well as his sisters Holliday Straub, and Suzanne (Barry) Lee, and by his beloved girlfriend and companion Donna McCormick. He also leaves behind many loved nieces, nephew, cousins and friends, and his lifelong friend and brother Joe Howard.
He was preceded in death by his mother Patricia Hernigle in September of 2018, and father Eugene Hernigle Sr. in February of 1999, as well as his brother William Hernigle who passed away in 1968.
A Service of Remembrance will take place on Wednesday July 31, 2019 at 11:00a.m., family and friends are invited to gather at 10:00a.m. prior to the service at Jackson & Betz Funeral Home 15 Main St, Fultonville, NY. Burial of Gene’s ashes will occur at St. Cecilia’s Cemetery following the service. Calling hours will take place on Tuesday July 30, 2019 from 4:30p.m. to 7:30p.m. at Jackson & Betz Funeral home.
