Obituary of Frances G. Wolan

Frances G. Wolan, 94, of Amsterdam passed away November 17, 2019;  She was born April 2, 1925 in Amsterdam, and is the daughter of the late James and Mary (Mikalonis) Barkevich.

Frances is survived by great niece Lori Jaracz, and great nephew Gary Swinn. Besides her parents Frances is predeceased by her husband Edward T. Wolan who passed away in 1993, by her brother William Barkevich, and two sisters Stella Landry, and Anna Miles. She is also predeceased by nieces Dorthy Swinn, and Lillian Jaracz.

During her lifetime, Frances was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam, and a 1943 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Frances was employed for nearly 30 years at NY Telephone retiring in 1978. During her time at NY Telephone Frances was a member of the Pioneers. She was a member of the former St. Casimir’s Church Ladies Auxillary, a member of the parish council serving as secretary, and currently a parishioner at St. Stanislaus Church. Frances was also a member of the Knights of Lithuania Council 100.  At RiverRidge Living Center, Fran was known for being active in the Activities Department, and assistant Bingo caller. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 10 AM at St. Stanislaus Church, 50-52 Cornell Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010 with Fr. O. Robert DeMartinis the Celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited to call prior to the mass from 9:30 to 10 AM at the church. Burial will follow in the family plot of the St. Casimir’s Cemetery.
