Obituary of Stella L. Bedzis
Mrs. Stella L. Bedzis, 89, of Amsterdam passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Wilkinson Residential Healthcare Facility one day shy of her 90th birthday, with her loving family at her side.
Born in Cohoes on December 13, 1929 she was the daughter of late Rose Galagan and John Balog. Stella grew up in Cohoes and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy. She moved to Amsterdam in 1951 following her marriage to Taras “Terry” Bedzis. Stella and Terry remained lovingly married until his passing in 2000.
Mrs. Bedzis was a communicant of Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church where she was a member of the Rosary Society. She was a member of the Cranesville Country Cousins Seniors, and a former member of St Casimir’s Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Bedzis was employed as Head Chef for the Greater Amsterdam School District where she retired from in 1991.
In addition to her husband Mrs. Bedzis was preceded in death by her brothers Edward J. Balog and John M. Balog. She is survived by two daughters Rosemary B. Checca, her husband Ronald Checca of LaGrangeville as well as Cynthia A. Krywulych and her companion Dave Mars of Amsterdam. She also leaves behind a grandson Michael Krywulych, his wife Brittany Krywulych and great-grandson Keegan Krywulych in addition to her numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Stella always enjoyed a good book, a challenging crossword puzzle or game of scrabble and never turned down a good piece of chocolate.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Home Healthcare Partners, the West Glenville Rescue Squad, as well as the staff of Wilkinson Residential Healthcare Facility – especially the second floor for their exceptional care during Stella’s stay. They also wish to acknowledge and thank the staff of Amsterdam Community Hospice for the love and care they showed Stella during her final week.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at 11:15am at Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church 156 Main St. Amsterdam, NY 12010. Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, December 17 from 8:30am to 10:30am at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Funeral Home 171 Guy Park Ave. Amsterdam, NY 12010 prior to the service. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery following services. In lieu of flowers donations in Stella’s memory may be made to West Glenville Volunteer Fire Company 2024 W Glenville Rd, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
