Obituary of Joseph Marnell

     Mr. Joseph Marnell, 90, of Yale St. Amsterdam, passed away Saturday morning December 28, 2019 at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center.

     Born in Amsterdam on May 27, 1929 the son of the late Thomas and Julia Agosta Marnell.  He was a lifelong area resident and attended Amsterdam schools.  He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War.    Joseph received his Master’s Degree in Education from SUNY Oswego State.    

    Mr. Marnell was an educator with the Great Amsterdam School District for many years. 

     Our family lost a great man, father, and grandfather.  He will be deeply missed by all.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Amsterdam.

     He is survived by his wife Theresa (Greco) Marnell of Amsterdam whom he married on June 27, 1954.    Two Sons, Thomas and Anthony Marnell both of Amsterdam.  Granddaughter, Amy (Casey) Marnell Elrod and two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Scarlett Elrod and one sister, Philomena Holt.  He was predeceased also by his parents Thomas and Julia Marnell and a brother, Richard Marnell.  He also was predeceased by his beloved dog “Patches”.  

      A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday January 3, 2020 at 11:15 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 39 St. John St., Amsterdam with Father John Bradley as celebrant.  Private Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Amsterdam. Military Honors will be rendered following the Mass outside of the church on Friday.    The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday January 3, 2020 prior to the Mass from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Amsterdam.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 113 Holland Ave, Rm C308-5, Albany, NY 12208.  Please leave condolences online at www.brbsfuneral.com
