Obituary of Gary P. Hinkel

Gary P. Hinkel, 54, of Amsterdam, NY passed away on January 9, 2020, after a difficult battle with pancreatic cancer. He will be greatly missed.

He was raised on the South Side of Amsterdam, and graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1983. After graduating, he served in the United States Navy on land and sea.

Gary is predeceased by his father, Henry R. Hinkel. He is survived by his loving wife Robin, whom he married on June 1, 2019. He is also survived by his mother, Concetta Hinkel, daughter Dezerie Hinkel, and siblings Ronald, Sandra (William Decker), and William.

For Gary, the joys of life usually involved music, trucking over the road, and tooling around on his motorcycle whenever he could; he made many lifetime friends while enjoying these pursuits. He was also a gifted cook, who loved sharing his culinary creations with family and friends. Always dependable, you could count on Gary any time you needed a helping hand.

His family wishes to express their gratitude for the compassionate care provided by the pastoral and nursing staff at St. Mary’s Hospital and Community Hospice.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 1:00  to 4:00 PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 GUy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY.    A prayer service will be held during the calling period at 3:00 PM Saturday with Father Pascal"Pat" Iannotti presiding at the funeral home.  A celebration of life will be held afterwards at the American Legion Post 701, 123 West Main Street, Amsterdam, NY. Burial services will be held privately at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to  the Community Hospice, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY, 12866.
