Obituary of Winifred A. Fraczek

Mrs. Winifred (Winnie) Fraczek, 94, formerly of Amsterdam, NY and Rt. 30 in Perth, NY and Rt. 29 in Broadalbin, NY, went to eternal rest with her children at her side on Monday January 13th, at The Wilkinson Residential Healthcare Facility.

Born on September 24, 1925 in Charlton, NY, she was the daughter of Stephen and Edna (Kawczyska) Cetnar. Winnie attended Amsterdam Schools and received her LPN License, she then worked as an LPN at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, putting in 26 years of service.

At one time during WWII, she was employed as a fork truck operator at the Navy Depot in Scotia, NY. She later worked as a chef at the Franz Tavern in Broadalbin, where she and her husband were the owners and operators for 10 years. Previously, they were in a partnership with Zigmond Fraczek at the Evergreen Hotel in Tupper Lake, NY.

On April 27, 1947 Winnie was united in marriage to the late Theodore J. Fraczek, that union lasted for 54 years until his passing on February 9, 2002.

Winnie was a member of St. Mary’s, St. John’s and St. Stephen’s Catholic Churches through the years. She also was a member of the Inman’s Crafters, Broadalbin Seniors, and the Amsterdam Garden Club. Winnie and her husband loved to grow, can, and freeze their own vegetables and fruits. She loved sewing, and took pride in it, especially when making quilts, knitting, and crocheting. Winnie was always so very happy when baking pies, cookies, and breads, as well as giving them lovingly to family and friends. Winnie loved to celebrate Holidays with her extended family at her home. One very special New Year’s Day, Winnie brought together her ten brothers, sister, and their spouses to her home in Perth for a loving family reunion.

She is survived by daughters: Gerry (Jack) Brown of Galway, NY, Connie (John) Cannizzaro of Freehold, NJ, sons: Paul (Angela) Fraczek of Amsterdam, NY, and Ted Fraczek of Saratoga Springs, NY, as well as by her grandchildren: Amy Brown, and John and Lisa Cannizzaro, Alea Fraczek, Sieara Lamphere, Matt Fraczek-Syczyk and great grandchildren: Ava Cannizzaro and Oscar Hasselbarth as well as several nieces and nephews.

Winnie was predeceased by her ten brothers: Frank, William, Stephen, John, Leo, Joseph, Jacob, Chester, Walter, Mac and by her sister, Mary Poteralski.

Winnie’s family would like to thank the staff at Wilkinson Residential Healthcare Facility, as well as the Community Hospice for their help and support to themselves and for Winnie’s care throughout her time with them.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Friday, January 17, 2020 at 11 AM at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 51 N Pawling St, Hagaman, NY 12086, with Father O. Robert DeMartinis presiding. Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to Mass from 10:00 until 11 AM at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Amsterdam, NY.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Edward L.
