Obituary of Josephine Greco

       Josephine “Jo” Carriola Greco, 88, of Amsterdam, passed away Tuesday evening January 14, 2020 at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility surrounded by her family.

      Born in Amsterdam on January 12, 1932 a daughter of the late Peter and Fortunata Nasso Carriola.  She was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and attended Amsterdam Schools.

     Josephine along with her late husband Otto, were the owner and operators of the former Otto Greco Painting and Amsterdam Decorating Center for over 20 years.   

       She loved to cook and will be missed for her homemade pasta, raviolis and eggplant.  She enjoyed being with her family and worshipped her grandkids that could do no wrong.   

     She was a communicant of Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.  She was also a member of the Santa Sofia Society of the former St. Michael the Archangel Church.    She was an avid bowler and bowled for many years in the Women’s Crosstown Bowling League. 

     Josephine married Otto Greco on September 27, 1953. He passed away in 1992. 

     She is survived by two sons, Peter (Dianne) Greco of Amsterdam and Paul (Janet) Greco of the Town of Mohawk, NY.  Cherished grandchildren, Jason Greco of Auburn, AL, Katie (Joseph Jr.) Greco of Ballston Spa, NY, Emily Greco of Stamford, CT,  Sean Greco of the Town of Mohawk and Juliane Greco (Phil Miskinis) of Castleton.  One great-grandson, Joseph Greco III.  Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

    She was predeceased by siblings, Rose Botch, Daniel Carriola, Carmen Carriola and John Carriola. 

      A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday January 17, 2020 at 11:15 AM at Historic St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main St. Amsterdam with Father Jeffrey M. L’Arche M.S. as celebrant.   The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday prior to the Mass from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the body of the church.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
