Obituary of Lawrence Alan White

Lawrence Alan White, 90, of Albany, NY passed away unexpectedly on April 3, 2020.

 

Larry was born in Albany, NY Jan 11, 1930, the son of Ronald Blanchard White and Elizabeth Marvette (Bailey) White.

 

Larry was predeceased by his parents and one sister Alice (Fran deceased) Almy. He is survived by ten of his siblings, Marge (Jack deceased) Batty, Lois (Curt deceased) Fisher, Connie (Don) Jeffers, Jack (Shirley) White, Willa (Dick) Schermerhorn, Joyce (Gary deceased) Brown, Paul (Judy) White, Tom (Fran) White, Dick White, Scott White and numerous of loving nieces and nephews and cousins.

 

While attending Johnstown, NY school Larry was the first student in his class to buy a war bond. Larry graduated from Gloversville High School and being an avid golfer participated in creating the G’ville High School Golf Team in the 1940’s. Years later while playing at Albany Municipal Golf Course he set the course record for that time.

 

He served in the United States Navy and spent his career working as a Design Draftsman at Albany Detailers Inc. He was also a consultant on various projects. He had a Security Clearance which allowed him to work on the design of Control Panels for Nuclear Powered Submarines.

 

He loved the Adirondacks and spent many years going to Long Lake, NY on weekends where he learned to hunt from his uncle ‘Bud’. He was very proud of the Adirondack log cabin he built in Wells, NY and spent his weekends there hiking and hunting with family and becoming friends with many of the local people. A special thanks to Bob and Deb Klim for their kindness and friendship.

 

Larry was also very knowledgeable about his family genealogy, U.S.A. history and local Wells history of which he was always willing to share. He was known for his warm sense of humor, kind demeanor and love of family and friends.

 

Larry will be very much missed by all those he touched.

 

A private graveside service was held at the convenience of the family at Algonquin Cemetery, Wells.

 

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the charity of your choice.
