Marian I. Elliott, age 101, passed away peacefully April 11, 2020 at River Ridge Living Center, in Amsterdam, NY.

Marian was born December 23, 1918 at North View Farm in Broadalbin to LaFayette and Clara Baird Winney.   She helped work the family farm and after high school moved to Schenectady to attend the Royal Beauty Academy.  When the US entered WW II, determined to support the war effort she left her job as a beautician and along with her sister, Mildred. went to work at General Electric as some of the first “Rosie the Riveters”. After the war, she married Anthony Czupryk, moved to Mayfield, NY and started her family.  She continued her career as a hairdresser as owner of the Mayfield Beauty Salon in the village square.  Widowed in 1964 when Anthony died, she worked multiple jobs to support her family. Working full time in her beauty shop during the day, she worked nights at Britts Department Store and Decca Records.  She was a Census Taker, and spent 40 years as an Election Inspector for the Fulton County Election Board.

Marian married Donald Elliott in 1969 and her life started a new chapter.  She and Don enjoyed fishing and camping at Piseco Lake and traveling throughout the USA in their motorhome.  In 1980 Marian retired from hairdressing after 52 years in business.  Always an active member of her community and the surrounding towns, Marian was Past President of the Mayfield Serviceman's Club Auxiliary, Past District President of the VFW 2077 Auxiliary in Gloversville, member of Bannertown 55 Plus Club, Broadalbin American Legion, and the Mayfield Central Presbyterian Church.  Donald died in 1995.

In 2006 Marian moved to a retirement community in Glenville, NY to be near her daughter and family.  She continued to have an active life, doing crafts, visiting neighbors and just enjoying a quieter way of life.  Some of her fondest memories were when “the ladies” from the Mayfield Quilting Guild visited and tied off quilts with her.  The joy she got from seeing random pieces of cloth, precisely chosen all coming together to create a beautiful keepsake.

Marian is survived by her daughter, Sandra Wallace (Brian) of Clifton Park; three granddaughters, Raina Van de Riet (Brad), Rachel Wallace (Christopher Herbert) of Richmond, VA and Stephanie Czupryk of Colorado; daughter in law, Robyn Czupryk and daughter Sierra Rosello of CA and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Marian was predeceased by son, Stephen Czupryk; brothers, Leroy, Howard, Ralph, Willis and Roger Winney and a sister, Mildred Dingman.

Interment will take place at a future date at Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield.
