Obituary of Michelina DeRosa

Mrs. Michelina "Lena" Malagisi DeRosa, age 82, of Johnstown, formerly of Meco, passed away on Friday April 24, 2020 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 29, 1937 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Pasquale and Elizabeth Malagisi. Michelina (Lena) graduated from Gloversville High School in 1955. She began her secretarial career at Schine Theater.  Later she worked for Dorfman’s Accounting Firm in downtown Gloversville.  In 1963 she and her cousin Ursula moved to the “BIG City” of Rochester where she was employed at Stromberg Carlson typing up equipment orders for the engineering department.

In 1965 she married her husband, of 54 years, Frank DeRosa.   While married and raising her family she held several jobs including a secretarial position at McNab Elementary School and the Fulton County Department of Social Services as the Secretary to the Director of Financial Assistance, a job she loved.  She retired from the county in 1997.  In retirement, she cared for her husband, children and grandchildren.  Her quiet and loving demeaner served as an example for all who knew her.

Michelina is survived by her husband Francis G. DeRosa, their three children, Esther Carpenter (Tim), of Gloversville, Beth DeRosa, of Johnstown, and Tony DeRosa (Katie), of Amsterdam, and  7 Grandchildren, Gianna, Francesca, Anthony and Sophia DeRosa of Amsterdam and Andrew, John and Michael Carpenter of Gloversville.  She is also survived by her siblings, Andrew Malagisi (Cecilia) of Ballston Spa, Joseph Malagisi (Kathy) of Ohio, Angelina Savage (John) of Gloversville, and sister-in-law, Sally Malagisi of Johnstown, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Along with both of her parents, Lena was predeceased by her brother Francesco (Frank) Malagisi of Caroga Lake, and her sister Mary Veeder of Gloversville.

A private interment will take place at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.
