Obituary of Janis Vietri

Mrs. Janis Vietri, age 86, of Gloversville, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Fulton Center, Gloversville.

She was born June 5, 1933 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Emmeline Hearth DeLaurie. She was employed in the library at Gloversville High School for many years where she formed many special relationships with the teachers, administrators, and students.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother of a large Italian family.  A true master of hospitality, she enjoyed hosting and cooking for her family and friends at many poolside gatherings and holiday celebrations. She created many special memories that her family and friends will cherish forever. She went on to teach her children and grandchildren the art of cooking her Italian delicacies. She took up quilt making and she created many beautiful quilts over the years.  Her family has these special quilts to fondly remember her by.

Janis was  a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit.  In the past, she was a member of Mt. Carmel where she brought the Eucharist to homebound people in the parish for many years.  She truly enjoyed helping the students and she always  had wonderful stories about her time there to share.

She is survived by three children, Michael and wife Joyce Vietri of Naperville, IL; Debbie and husband Mark VanDeusen of Johnstown and Patty Bentley of Gloversville; six grandchildren, Zachary Vietri (Amelia), Joseph Vietri (Elizabeth), Brian Sanford (Tia), Brittany VanDeusen (Nicholas), Benjamin Vietri and Alex VanDeusen; five great-grandchildren, Annabella Sanford, Julianna Vietri, Damion Sanford, Lawton Vietri, and Poppy Vietri; as well as her brother Larry DeLaurie.
