Obituary of Rose A. Martuscello

     Mrs. Rose Anastasia Martuscello, 100, of Amsterdam, passed away Sunday August 16, 2020 at the River Ridge Living Center, LLC. In Amsterdam.

     Born in Pisciotta, Province of Salerno, Italy on June 5, 1920 a daughter of the late Gesu and Guissepina Greco Anastasia.

     She married Peter Martuscello on November 21, 1943.  He passed away on January 6, 1978. 

   Rose is survived by her children, daughter, Mary Jo (Wayne, deceased)  Osinski of Ballston Lake, NY.  Sons,  Robert (Janet) Martuscello and Edward (Pamela)Martuscello of Amsterdam.  Cherished grandchildren,  Joel, Ryan (Mary Reynolds) Osinski, Alyssa Whitcher, Andrew (Jaime) Martuscello, Sara (Nick) Capece, Edward (Carolyn Suriano), Joseph Martuscello and Sarah (David) Tokarowski, 7 great-grandchildren  and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

    She is predeceased by her siblings, Carmella Pereicich, Lena Robusto , Anella D’Ambrosio, Vito Anastasia and an infant brother Daniel.  

     She immigrated to the United States as an infant where the family had previously settled in Amsterdam.  She attended Amsterdam public Schools and then worked as a young girl in a button factory, a glove factory and a coat factory.  She later spent many years as a Head Chef at the former Montgomery County Infirmary.    

     Rose was a communicant of the former St. Michael’s Church in Amsterdam and was active in the St. Sophia Society, helping with many fundraisers.  She most recently was a communicant of Historic St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam.  She was also a member of Sterling Care of the former Amsterdam Memorial Hospital and Club 60 of St. Mary’s Hospital. 

    Her passions were cooking and baking breads, cakes, and exquisite Italian desserts which she perfected with many years of refining her skills.  She was quick to share her gifts in abundance with all she knew-both recipes and goods.  At holiday time, with family, her presentations were legendary.  She took great pride in painstakingly catering to all the preferences she was aware of. 

    Ever ready with a welcoming smile, she made friends young and old wherever she went.  In the century of her life, she was a role model of perseverance through adversity and steadfastness in good will. 

     She leaves a beautiful legacy to family and friends who will miss her greatly.  Her smile and even countenance will live on in those who knew her and loved her.

       A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday August 21, 2020 at 11:15A.M.  at Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, East Main St. Amsterdam with Father Jeffrey M. L’Arche M.S. as celebrant.   Calling hours are private.   Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ft.
