Obituary of Marvin R. LeRoy, Sr.

Mr. Marvin R. LeRoy, Sr., 83, of Amsterdam, NY passed away on August 24, 2020 with his loving children by his side.  Born in Amsterdam, NY on September 24, 1936 he was the son of the late Voorhees and Clara Filbeck LeRoy.

A lifelong area resident, Marvin graduated from the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1954.  He entered into the United States Marine Corps immediately after graduation and served proudly until being honorably discharged in June, 1962.

On April 12, 1958 he was united in marriage to Catherine Wert and celebrated 53 years together before her passing on January 4, 2012.  Together they enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean and spending time together with their children and grandchildren.  They loved and supported their grandchildren in all of their endeavors and were their greatest fans.

Marvin worked for the New York State Canal Corporation as an electrician, retiring after 36 years of service.  He also was employed as a part time deputy for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for many years.

Survivors include one son, Marvin R. LeRoy, Jr. and his wife Cynthia of Clifton Park, NY; two daughters, Bonnie Emery and her husband Richard of Amsterdam, NY and Donna Stead and her husband Jon of Broadalbin, NY; six grandchildren, Nicole (Keelan) Zyzes, Christina (Kristopher) Lais, Samantha Stead, Courtney Stead, William LeRoy and Michael LeRoy; three great grandchildren, Makenah, Mason and Harper; one sister, Eloise Hart of Orlando, FL; and several very special nieces and nephews.
