Obituary of Joyce Bierman

Mrs. Joyce (Hallam) Bierman, age 95, of Johnstown passed away on September 4, 2020 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville.

Joyce was born May 7, 1925 in Leeds, England, the daughter of the late Harry and Kitty Hallam. After being educated in England, she assisted with British war efforts by working at the Curtiss-Wright Corporation, inspecting airplane parts.  She met and married her husband, William, an American soldier stationed in England, as World War II ended in 1945.  Joyce came to America with her husband, where they settled in Amsterdam, and later raised their family in Tribes Hill, New York.

Always good with numbers, Joyce worked in a variety of roles using these skills in the City of Amsterdam. She served in the Payroll Department at Bigelow-Sanford, Administrative Office at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital and finally retired from Ritter Chemical Company, where she worked as the Office Manager for several years.  After her retirement, Joyce volunteered weekly as member of the Auxiliary at Nathan Littauer Hospital & Nursing Home for over thirty years.

Joyce is survived by her daughter Linda Callahan (John); granddaughter, Erin Callahan Wheeler (Michael); grandson, Michael Callahan (Ria); great-granddaughter, Emma Lin Wheeler; great-grandson William Dumlao Callahan; niece Cynthia Lennon (Bob), nephew Peter Scott Hallam (Bernie) and son Keaton, and nephew Christopher Hallam (Claudia); a brother, Harry Hallam (Poppy) and their children Sean (Amy) Hallam, Katheen (Joe) Bushek, Poppy (Orlando) Picozzi and Peggy Hallam.

In addition to both of her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her husband William Bierman and brother, Peter Hallam.

Keeping with Joyce’s wishes, a private interment will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
