Obituary of Margaret D. Nellis

     Mrs. Margaret D. Nellis, 66, of Gloversville, NY, passed away on Monday January 25, 2021 at Nathan Littauer Hospital following a long battle with COPD with a short hospitalization. 

     Born in Ottumwa, Iowa on June 28, 1954 a daughter of the late Edward and Mary Martz Skinner.  She earned her G.E.D. in her later years. 

     She was employed for a time at Spalding in Johnstown, NY.  Margaret gave the warmest, tightest hugs.  She enjoyed playing bingo with her family and fishing and hunting in her younger years.

    Margaret lived for her family,  she spent most of her time with her children and grandchildren after the passing of her parents and husband.  She enjoyed growing roses and lilies.  When she lived on Cromer Road she could often be found outdoors rising her chickens, tending to her flower beds, spending time at hunting camp and occasionally helping with the splitting of firewood.

   She enjoyed taking pictures and looking for signs of the afterlife.  She enjoyed Sci-fi movies and War documentaries.  Car rides especially on the back roads of Bleeker, where she loved seeing all the leaves changing colors. 

     She married the love of her life Richard Nellis on August 27, 1972.  He passed away on May 15, 1999. 

     Survivors include her two children, Wendy (John) Sargalis of Johnstown, NY and Richard A. (Rebecca) Nellis Jr. of Bleeker, NY.   She was one of eight children.  Eight grandchildren, Todd, Justin, Kimberly, Tiffany, Edward, Christa, Natasha and Richard.  Four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.   

   Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, services will not be held at this time.  A celebration of Margaret's life will be held at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Mohawk Fire Department, 2553 State Hwy 30A, Fonda, NY 12068. or to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St. Fultonville, NY 12072.  Please leave condolences online at www.brbsfuneral.com,
