Marilyn Yost

Obituary of Marilyn Elaine Yost

Marilyn Elaine Yost (Sweet), 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 20, 2021.

She was born in New York on August 29, 1929, off Vandenburg’s Point on the Sacandaga Reservoir to Lena and Emmett Sweet.  She married Robert Yost Sr. in 1947, and they shared many fun gatherings and time with family over the years. Elaine helped Bob run the Rural Gas Company as well. Bob preceded her in death in 1989.

Elaine loved to tease and laugh with people, and our family will always smile thinking of her many funny sayings.  She made beautiful ceramics which she shared with many family members and friends.  Elaine loved gardening of all kinds and had an abundant garden of flowers and vegetables for many years. Her canning cellar was always full to the brim with all of the vegetables she preserved.

She was an amazing tender to her African violets…no one could get an African violet to bloom the way that she did. She loved her flowers almost as much as she loved John Wayne and her poodle, Monique!  And she made innumerable batches of her famous garlic dill pickles for her children and grandchildren, who are forever ruined for all other pickles because her pickles were the best! Elaine was also an avid walker who walked regularly through the seasons over many years on the Griffis Road and the railroad tracks on the Nine Mile Tree Road.

Elaine’s immediate family include her three children and their spouses Bob and Lynn, Sandy and Tim, and Kevin and Janice, her grandchildren Jen Yost (Dave), Erik Yost (Kendra), Erin Yost, Emily Yost (Dorota), Megan Dietz (Jeremy), Jessica Dawson (Louis), and Katie Yost, plus seven great grandchildren.

Elaine chose not to have a funeral service.  Remember her with love and laughter, and as she died on the first day of spring, you might choose to plant a tree or flower in her honor.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
