Richard Dennis Thomas, 78, of Amsterdam, New York, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2021 at St Johnsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Richard was born on May 20, 1942 to the late Cornelius and Marie (Gardner) Thomas.
After graduating from High School, Richard enlisted in the United States Air Force. He worked as an aircraft mechanic through the early years of the Vietnam War, from 1960 until 1964. Upon returning home, he worked as a truck driver for several years, until he found his calling as a Car Salesman. Richard worked for many local dealerships in the greater Amsterdam area during his 40 year long career. Richard closed out his career working at James Chevrolet in Johnstown, where he retired in 2013.
On December 22, 1962 he was united in marriage to Linda Klingbiel in the Town of Florida. They shared 54 wonderful years together, until her passing on March 22, 2016. Together, Linda and Richard raised their four children, Richard (Kim) Thomas Jr. of Long Island, Patricia (David) Waldvogel of Gloversville, Timothy (Michele) Thomas of Amsterdam, and Robert (Amy) Thomas of Mohawk, all of whom survive him. Richard is also survived by his 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Gary Thomas and Cornelius Thomas Jr.
Services will be held privately, at the family’s convenience. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to St. Johnsville Nursing & Rehabilitation Resident Council, 7 Timmerman Avenue, St Johnsville, NY 13452.
