Obituary of Alfred C. Palombi

     Alfred C. Palombi of Deal Place passed away peacefully on June 18, 2021 at the home of his loving daughter Carol who was by his side.   Born on July 16, 1925, he was the second oldest of six children born to Angelo and Natalina (Bianchi) Palombi. He was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam.

 

     He was retired from the General Electric Company where he worked as an electrician and was the recipient of awards for suggestions that were implemented through his efforts. Prior to his work at GE he was employed by the American Locomotive Company. During his retirement years he enjoyed working with his brother John at Castler’s Market.

 

     He married the love of his life Grace (DeFeo) Palombi. He always said he had a crush on her since he was seven years old. He was a wonderful caregiver to her until her passing in 2016. They shared a wonderful 71 years of marriage. He enjoyed traveling and together they were able to visit many places in the states as well as abroad.  He also enjoyed cruising to interesting ports of call. He had a keen sense of humor and would always have a joke to share. Al was a man of many talents and had a strong work ethic. There wasn’t a thing he couldn’t fix. He was an avid car enthusiast of both old and new cars and he even rebuilt a 1930 Buick. In his early years he enjoyed taking care of his vegetable and flower garden. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and the former St. Mary’s Seniors. He was a communicant of the former St. Michael’s Church and now Historic St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam.

 

     He was a devoted father and is survived by his daughter and best friend Carol (Palombi) Douglas who he resided with for the past five years. He is also survived by his youngest brother Gerald Palombi of Marietta GA and his cousin Jennie Zawisza, along with several nieces and nephews.

 

     In addition to his wife Grace, he was predeceased by his son in law, who he adored, James Douglas, his siblings, Phyllis (Peter) DeLuccia, John (Josephine) Palombi, Mary (Guy) Cappuccio, Anthony Palombi and sister in law Carol Olsen Palombi.

 

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday June 23, 2021 at 1:00PM at Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main St. Amsterdam, NY with Father O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant.   The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass from 10:00AM  to 12:00 Noon at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY.  The family requests that masks be worn and social distancing followed by all attending the funeral mass and calling hours.  Please respect the family’s wishes and follow these protocols for everyone’s safety.  Burial is private in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern NY, 965 Albany Shaker Rd, Latham, NY 12110 or to Community Hospice, 179 Lawrence St. Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
