Obituary of Joseph A. DeMatteo

    Joseph A. DeMatteo, 76, of Amsterdam passed away on June 24, 2021 with his loving family by his side. Born in Schenectady, NY on September 9, 1944 he was the son of the late Sebastian and Marian (Allen) DeMatteo.

       He is survived by his loving wife Gayle A. Litchfield DeMatteo,  whom he married on May 13, 1967.  Daughters, Sandra Lewis, Toni Lynn Wyanski, Christine (Matthew) Picinic all of Amsterdam.   Brothers, Samuel (Edwina) DeMatteo of Florida, Wayne (Tina) DeMatteo of Schenectady, and his sister Debra Phillips of Schenectady.   His cherished grandchildren,  Amanda, Michael, William, Jessica, Joseph. Great-grandchildren,  Vincent, Alexa, Jordynn, Cynthia, Michael III, Mikayla, and Adam.    Also many cousins, nieces, and nephews.  He was predeceased by a sister, Yvonne DeMatteo and son-in-law, Michael Wyanski.

     During his lifetime Joseph was employed by the Montgomery County Infirmary where he worked for 26 years until he had to retire in 2005 due to health issues. Most of all Joseph loved spending time with his family whom he adored, and work to provide for all of them. In his spare time Joseph enjoyed horseracing.
