Obituary of Margaret A. Bautz, R.N.

Margaret A. " Maggie" Bautz, R.N., 60, of Noonan Rd, Ft. Johnson, NY, passed away peacefully in her home, with her loving husband, Rick, by her side, on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, NY, on August 30, 1960, the daughter of Albert L. and Marjorie S. Caprara. Maggie was the much adored baby sister to three older siblings. The family lived in Fort Johnson, NY until moving to Amsterdam in 1967.

Following graduation from Wilbur H. Lynch High School, in 1978, Maggie pursued her calling and received an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Nursing from Fulton- Montgomery Community College. Once board certified, Miss Caprara, a fledgling RN, began what would be a 38 year career in nursing. From 1983 until 2002, Maggie worked in medical surgical, post-anesthesia, and the operating room at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital. From 2002 until present, she was the Supervisor of Surgical and Operating Room Services at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Maggie was a dedicated leader who was highly respected and much loved by the surgical doctors, anesthesiologists, nurses, staff and vendors. She was well known throughout the entire hospital, as she inspired others to deliver the best patient care possible, through her own acts of kindness, compassion, empathy, and caring ways.

Maggie was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.  She delighted in watching her two sons grow into successful adults, nudging them with loving hands, and always celebrating and taking pride in their many achievements. She adored her nieces and nephews and spoiled all 21 of her great- nieces and nephews, remembering them at the holidays, on birthdays and special occasions.

Maggie had a pure zest for life. She enjoyed sunrises on the front porch with Rick, and their many family trips to Disney World.  She found joy in entertaining her family on holidays and special occasions. Everyone looked forward to the fantabulous Thanksgiving extravaganzas at Aunt Maggie and Uncle Rick's each year. She was an amazing cook, and a talented baker, always sharing her love through her signature stuffed ziti and a wide variety of delicious cookies.

Maggie, taken from all of us far too early for reasons beyond our understanding, will be greatly missed in the void her loss creates in our days. She will always be in the depths of our hearts, continuing her life with us, through her legacy of generosity and love. To God we give thanks for the beautiful life she shared with us.

She is survived by the love of her life, and devoted husband of nearly 33 years, Richard "Rick" Bautz. They were married on July 2, 1988 at St. Michael's Church in Amsterdam, NY. Also left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Richard A. Bautz (Sarah) of Quincy, MA and Robert E. Bautz of Ft. Johnson, NY, two sisters, Judith C. Wurster (Henry) of Plattsburgh, NY, and Mary Beth Johnson (William) of Apex, NC, a brother, Thomas A. Caprara of Delmar, NY. Also, her brothers and sister-in-law’s, Donald Bautz Golden (Cherri) of Bentonville, AR, Debra Duerr (Mark) of Westampton, NJ, Steven Bautz (Karin) of Edison, NJ, Barbara Alserge (Scott) of Cape Coral, FL, and Timothy Bautz (Robyn) of Fort Myers, FL, her Aunt, Madeline Caprara of Saratoga Springs, NY, and an uncle, Robert Gardinier (Patricia) of Chapel Hill, NC, many nieces, nephews and their children, several cousins and her best friend, Kathy.
