Obituary of Dominick J. Tomasello

Dominick John Tomasello, a resident of Pompano Beach, Florida, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2021, in his 96th year of life, while temporarily at the Kindred Rehabilitation Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Born July 7, 1926, in Amsterdam, New York, he was the son of the late Anthony John Tomasello and the late Laura Pietrandrea Tomasello. He attended Wilbur H. Lynch High School before enlisting in the U.S Army in 1945. Dominick proudly served this nation and traveled the world with his beloved wife, Geraldine "Geri" Tomasello, whom he married on April 12, 1953. Dominick retired from the U.S. Army as a Sergeant Master E7 in 1967, and a World War II Veteran.  After retiring from 22 years, 2 months and 22 days in the United States Army, he and his family lived in upstate New York, until they moved to south Florida in 1972.  He was employed as a Postal Worker, and after retiring again, Dominick became a Starter at the Pompano Beach Municipal Golf Course for the next 14 years, until fully retiring at the age of 80. He loved playing golf regularly, beginning at age of 11, and scored 2 hole-in-ones in May and June of 2011. Dominick and Geri were members of San Isidro Catholic Roman Catholic Church, enjoying the spiritual charismatic practices of Catholicism and Dominick sang in the choir several years ago. Dominick's beloved wife, Geri, passed away on June 22, 2007, after 54 wonderful years of marriage.

He will be remembered as a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and special friend, known for living his life with the utmost of integrity, values, kindness, compassion, and humor.  He was an outstanding lifelong golfer, hard to beat, an avid bowler many years ago, enjoyed playing pinnacle and bingo regularly, and spending quality time with family and friends.  Dominick was humble as to his credits and was frequently recognized while out and about in the Fort Lauderdale area.  Dominick was preceded in death by his parents named above, as well as by his older brother, Vitello Tomasello.

Dominick is survived by his son, G. Scott Tomasello of Delray Beach, Florida; his daughter, Laura Tomasello of Boynton Beach, Florida; his grandson Anthony Scott Tomasello, his wife, Christine Sala Tomasello, and great granddaughter, Adele Grace Tomasello, all of Royal Palm Beach, Florida. Dominick’s cousin, Michael Orapello predeceased him recently, and he is survived by his wife, Jean Orapello, their two children, Anthony Orapello and Anne Orapello Schofield and their families.  He also leaves behind sister-in-law, Phyllis Rinaldi Marotta, of Amsterdam, New York, her daughters, Doreen Wnuk, Linda Snell, and Lucinda Padrick; also predeceased by sister-in-law, Edith Caprera, her daughter, Gail Vines; predeceased by sister-in-law Rachel Hackert, her daughter Denise Hackert Stoner, and all of their respective families, including his great nieces and great nephews, each of whom he loved so dearly.  Most assuredly, Dominick will miss the love and laughter shared for so many years with all of his very special friends and family in Florida, the U.S. and across the world, who are and will always hold a special place in his heart.  Lastly, it should be noted how much he will miss his golfing days, those friends, and how much joy that brought to Dominick all his life.
