Obituary of Clement M. Spagnola

Mr. Clement M. “Clem” Spagnola, of Pawling Street, Hagaman, died peacefully on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Ellis Hospital surrounded by his family.  Born on July 13, 1946 in Gloversville, NY he was the son of the late Aloysius Louis Spagnola and Katherine A. Gray Spagnola.

 

A lifelong area resident, Clem was a graduate of St. Mary’s Institute and went on to Hudson Valley Community College where he obtained a degree in accounting. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1966, and served proudly following his enlistment until 1969, when he was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. Clem was employed as an Accountant at General Electric for over 35 years.  He also had his own Tax Preparation Business for over 40 years. 

 

Clem enjoyed life to the fullest.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseracing, bowling, going to the casino and was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the NY Yankees.  His greatest joy was being the Patriarch of the Spagnola family, and being surrounded by his family and many friends, especially at the family camp. Clem will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

 

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gloria McGuigan Spagnola; four children, Michael (Sandie) Spagnola, Wendy Spagnola, Kelly (Rich) Glionna, Brandon (Katie Antos) Spagnola; one sister, Susan (Jimmy) Russo; ten grandchildren, Michael Jr., Kristen, Emily, Kolbie, Autumn, Joey, Christian, Ashlin, Antone and Vinny; one great granddaughter, Athena; several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

 

Clem was predeceased by his sister, Lynda L. Spagnola.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 11a.m. at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church, 51 N. Pawling Street, Hagaman, NY with the Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend.  Private burial with military honors will take place at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.   

 

On August 8, 2021 at 3:30p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to the Spagnola Family Camp at Galway Lake in honor of Clem to have a good time and to enjoy food and drinks.

 

Throughout Clem’s illness, he received nearly 75 blood transfusions. Due to the current blood shortage, and in lieu of flowers, please consider donating blood on August 24, 2021 from 1p.m. - 6p.m. at the Perth Town Hall, 1848 County Highway 107, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or making a monetary donation in Clem’s name to the American Red Cross www.redcross.org
