Obituary of Lawrence J. Watkins Jr.

Lawrence J. “Pinky” Watkins Jr; 69, of Amsterdam passed away September 16, 2021 with his loving family by his side. Born in Amsterdam on February 23, 1952 he was the son of the late Lawrence J. and Frieda (Davidson) Watkins Sr.

Survived by his loving wife whom he united in marriage with on June 10, 1978 Cheryl A. (Flansburg) Watkins of Amsterdam. His loving children Lawrence J. (Rebecca) Watkins III of Amsterdam, Tyler R. (Sharon) Hewitt of Pattersonville, Daniel A. Sparks of Gloversville, Beth A. (Eric) Watkins of Amsterdam, and Lisa (Brian) LeGere of Mableton GA. His brothers Michael Watkins of Amsterdam, and Jody Watkins of Fort Johnson, and his sisters Cari Aldi of Fultonville, and Mary Beth Ford of Broadalbin. He is also survived by twelve loving grandchildren Liza, Sara, Alison, Ashley, Dustin, Daniel, Briana, Alyssa, Bailey, Kaylyn, Bradley, Lily, and by eight great grandchildren. Survived also by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Pinky was a graduate of Amsterdam High School, he was an avid car show enthusiast, and was a member of the Rat Pac Cruizers, and the Tri City Muscle Cars, but most of all you would see Pinky driving around town in his 1971 Purple Nova. Pinky was a diehard NASCAR fan and especially enjoyed watching Dale Earnhardt Sr.  He also enjoyed RC racing, and loved spending time with family and friends.

A Celebration of Pinky’s life will take place at Happy Days, 4470 NY-30, Amsterdam, NY 12010 on Saturday September 25, 2021 from 12 to 4pm.
