Obituary of Lester D. Bellinger

Lester D. "Stubby" Bellinger, age 96, of Johnstown, passed away Wednesday evening, September 29, 2021 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady.

He was born May 4, 1925 in the Town of Stark, NY, the son of the late Erwin and Lillian Tupper Bellinger. He served with the Seabees in the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was later employed as a Glazer by General Electric of Schenectady for 33 years. He was an avid boater and was a lifetime member of the Sacandaga Boat Club, a 50 year life member of the Berkshire Fire Dept. and life member of the Johnstown VFW. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and jetskiing. He built his own kayak and fully restored a 1940 Chris-Craft Mahogany Boat. He was an artist in the field of stained glass creations.

Stubby is survived by his wife, Shirley Stanton Bellinger of Johnstown; two sons, David Bellinger (Robbie) and Ronald Bellinger; two step-daughters, Linda VanDerveer Thompson and Nancy VanDerveer Darrow (Jim); four grandchildren, Keith Bellinger, Lindsay Bellinger, Davina Holmes and Matthew Holmes; four great-grandchildren, Charlie Bellinger, Emma Holmes, Jacob Toomer and Jordan Holmes-Keefer; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. His faithful dog, Chuckie, also survives.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Stanley Bellinger.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a graveside service at 1 pm Monday, Oct. 4 at Ferndale Cemetery,  Johnstown, with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. Face masks are required to attend.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
