Obituary of Richard A. Donohue

Richard “Dick” A. Donohue, 92, passed away peacefully at his home in Mariaville with his family surrounding him on November 3, 2021. Born in Schenectady, NY on July 4, 1929, he was the son of the late Joseph Donohue and Marcia Milliken. He was a lifelong resident of Schenectady County.

Richard served in the US Navy from 1950-1954 and served on the USS Columbus. He traveled half the world and shared his memories with his family. He worked for 30 years as a Chief Lock Operator with the NYS Canal System. Richard was also a lifelong member of the Mariaville Fire Department, serving in various roles including Assistant Chief. Dick was an amazing carpenter and a gifted sculptor. Dick always knew how to make those around him smile and laugh. He was loved by many.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Beth Richter (Jason) and granddaughter, Taylor Rose Devito of Amsterdam. He is also survived by his loving family members Melodie Simpkins of Mariavile and James (Dianne) Simpkins of Pattersonville. He is also survived by his extended family, Theresa Simpkins and Karen Simpkins. Richard was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Robert Donohue, Mary Rahn and his twin sister, Ruth Donohue.

Richard had asked that there be no services, but a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 4126 Duanesburg Churches rd. Pattersonville, NY at 2pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Mariaville Fire Department, 9284 Mariaville Rd. Pattersonville, NY 12137 or your local Hospice. The family would also like to thank Alice Ault, Kathy Hewitt and Ben Norero for their assistance with Dick, which allowed him to remain at home in his final days.
