Obituary of John A. Bornt, Sr.

John A. Bornt, Sr; age 85, of Gloversville, passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, January 2, 2022.

He was born May 30, 1936 in Gloversville, the son of the late Arthur and Sadie Billington Bornt. John’s mother died when he was a young child. He was then raised by his father and stepmother, Helen.

He worked all his life at the family-owned Bornt Waste and Metal where he retired several years ago as a co-owner. He was a well-known race fan at the Fonda Speedway, where he attended nearly every race held there since it opened years ago.  He also enjoyed camping at Lewey Lake, and when he was younger, he loved to go hunting and fishing. Recently he enjoyed playing Lottery numbers. An animal lover, he was also a former member of the Pine Tree Rifle Club.

John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marlene G. Jackson Bornt; a son, John A. Bornt Jr. (Valerie Goodemote); his two loving granddaughters, Rachel Putman (Tyler) and Rebecca Bornt (Jake Wells); as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his pet cat Chloe and his granddaughter’s dogs.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Vickie Mosetti Bornt; as well as all seven of his siblings: Ronald, Harold, Arthur Jr; Joseph, James and Richard Bornt and Bertha Thompson.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 am to 12 noon on Monday, January 10th at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a Funeral Service will follow at 12 noon with the Rev. R.W. Williams officiating. Facial masks will be required.

Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
