Obituary of Maria P. Lopez

Ms. Maria P. Lopez, 75, of Amsterdam NY passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care.

She was born on August 26, 1946 to Mr. Mateo Lopez and Mrs. Damasa Rodriguez of Maricao, Puerto Rico. Maria and her family relocated to Amsterdam in 1982. She was employed by several local businesses including Adirondack Knitting until her retirement. 

Maria was a devoted single mother who loved spending time with her family and making friends. She took her daughter dancing every Friday and Saturday night, and loved playing Dominoes but hated losing. She enjoyed watching her soap operas as well as Sci Fi movies with her grandson.  She always looked good and was lovingly referred to as “Mama Maria” by her grandchildren and great grandchildren because she was like a mother to them. Maria was a fun, funny, beautiful firecracker and she will be remembered as a Legend by everyone who was blessed to know her.

Maria is survived by her sons; Roberto (Carmen) Santiago, Angel (Marisol) Pietris, and Julio (Ana) Santiago, daughter Maria Ruiz, siblings; Mateo Lopez, Salvador (Gladys) Lopez, and Milagros (Wilo) Lopez. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren; Juan Martinez, Luis (Maxi) Martinez, Robert Santiago Jr., Gloria Martinez, and Cassandra Santiago as well as her beloved great-grandchildren; Jayson and Jazlynn, Ginelis, Geralis and Leyla, Gabriella and Angel. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents, and her son Carlos Santiago.

Calling Hours will take place on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 1:00PM to 4:00PM at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Funeral Home 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam NY 12010.
