Obituary of John Chirico

       Mr. John Chirico, 80, of Gloversville, formerly of Amsterdam, passed away on Thursday March 10, 2022, on his 80^th Birthday, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany with his loving wife and children by his side.

      Born in Amsterdam, NY on March 10, 1942 a son of the late Albert and Margaret Musillo Chirico.  He was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and attended local schools.

    John was employed for many years as a Lead Car Salesman for Mangino Chevrolet in Amsterdam until his retirement in 2019.

John always enjoyed spending time with his family. His family was everything to him.  He will certainly be missed by all who knew him. He was an avid NY Mets and NY Jets fan.    He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.

    John married Leona M. Messineo Chirico on October 9, 1960.  They were married 61 years.

     In addition to his loving wife he is survived by five children, Cheri (Mark) Gifford of Amsterdam, David (Jana) Chirico of Indianapolis, IN, Lisa (Joseph) Angelo of Amsterdam, Joseph Chirico of Amsterdam and David Williams of Florida.  One brother, William "Bill" (Sandy) Chirico of Amsterdam.   Cherished grandchildren, Nicole (Richard) Baez, Christina (Scott) Thompson, Melissa  Quackenbush, Gianni Gifford, David Chirico and Marc Chirico.  Great-grandchildren, Hannah, Davia, Adrian, Audrina, Ava, Lily and Jonathan.   Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.   John was preceded in death by a beloved son, John M. Chirico on November 21, 1992.  He was also predeceased by a brother, Anthony “Sonny”  Chirico and sister, Raffaela M. Stearns.

   A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday March 16, 2022 at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 39 St. John St., Amsterdam with Father O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant.   Interment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam.    The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday March 15, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
