Obituary of Nancy L. Tyler

Nancy Louise Smith Tyler,  A loving, compassionate, thoughtful and giving wife, mother, silly grandma and friend took the Lords hand with her husband Roger and son Eric by her side on June 28, 2022 at the age of 79.

Roger and Nancy would have celebrated 46 years of Marriage on October 9, 2022.

Nancy was born in Amsterdam, NY on April 9, 1943 the youngest daughter of the late John T. Smith and Elizabeth A. McCaffrey Smith.  She was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School class of 1961, where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi Sorority.  Later she attended Green Mountain Jr. College in Poultney, Vermont studying executive secretarial courses.  She was employed early on for Enterprise, Knolls Atomic Power Lab, Amsterdam Printing Co., Nationwide Insurance Co., Seasonal worker for NY State Income Tax Dept., and was an advocate and member of Project Action Smoke-free Coalition.

Nancy was a person of great faith, always praying for others in need, as they prayed for her during her two journeys with head/neck cancer being the greatest challenge she ever faced.  She went through it all with courage and determination with her “rock’ of a husband by her side at all times.  Nancy was a member of the United Methodist Church, Golf Course Rd., and attended the First United Methodist Church of Hagaman until its closing.

Nancy enjoyed traveling with Roger, especially their dream vacation to Hawaii visiting all the islands.  They enjoyed finding an endless supply of seashells (created crafts for their personal enjoyment) from Boynton Beach, Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach and Cape Cod.  They also enjoyed touring the Adirondacks and the New England States.  Nancy holds many fond memories of summers fishing on Galway Lake with her Dad at their camp when she was little.  She enjoyed boating on the Sacandaga Lake with her dad and her son.

Nancy also enjoyed walking, cooking, tarot card readings, knitting, playing canasta and solitaire; the beach, reading her kindle, organizing past memorabilia and ice cream!!! Nancy’s greatest joy was raising her son Eric, she was so proud of all he accomplished in life.  Nancy loved children and having grandchildren brought joy to her heart.

Nancy is survived by her husband Roger, son Eric (Kim) Tyler of Scotia.  Two grandchildren,  Mikerica Mae Tyler and John Eric Tyler of Scotia, NY.   Three step-grandchildren, Jody Tyler, Tabitha Szezepanik and Danielle Tyler.  Step-grandchildren,  Willow Tyler, Austin Leach, Lilyanna Tyler, Sophia Tyler, Asher Tyler  and Mackenzie Szczepanik.  Along with her parents she was predeceased by:  her sister, Carol A.
