Obituary of Gloria LaPorta

Gloria LaPorta, age 89, of Gloversville, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 28, 2022 at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville.

She was born February 7, 1933 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late John and Clementina "Deana" (Zambri) Garguilo. She was employed in the offices of Donlon Insurance and later at McNab School for over 30 years, where she was compassionate to students in need.  A woman of strong faith, she was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit and it's Sisters of the Holy Spirit, the "Six G's Club" which consisted of six Garguilo cousins. She enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family, which meant the most to her. She always had a place in her heart for animals.

Gloria is survived by three children, Michael LaPorta (Dottie), Timothy LaPorta (Michele) and Susan LaPorta; four grandchildren, Nicole LaPorta, Kellyann Kolbe, Joseph M. LaPorta and Antonio LaPorta; five great-grandchildren, Deana Carey, Blake Warner, Kaidlyn Kolbe, Kynlie Kolbe and Kane Kolbe; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins including a very special nephew, Anthony Ficili.

She was married on October 29, 1950 to her husband of 68 years, Joseph LaPorta, who died in 2018. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Rose Ficili and Jeanette Salvatore and a niece, Gloria Salvatore Freeman.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 9 to 11 am Friday. November 4th at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville, where a Prayer Service will take place at 11:00, following by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St. at 11:45 am with the Rev. Matthew Wetsel officiating. 
Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.
