Dorothea Studenic

Obituary of Dorothea Jean Studenic

Mrs. Dorothea Jean "Dottie" Studenic, age 82, of Gloversville, New York, died on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at her home in Gloversville with her family by her side

She was born on February 4, 1940 in Gloversville, the daughter of Hallock and Dorothea (Rowley) Alvord. She graduated from Gloversville High School, and after meeting and marrying William "Bill" Studenic, settled down to raise their family.

Dottie was affectionately known to her grandchildren and all their friends as “Mema”. Always was ready welcome friends and family, and she never disappointed as the best host for 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve dinners.  She was a long-standing member of the Eccentric and Pinebrook Golf Clubs.  She supported the Caroga Lake Volunteer Fire Department, NLH and supported Mountain Valley Hospice. Dottie enjoyed playing Bridge, dinner with Crazy 8's. and a round of golf with the "Nightmares".

Dottie loved all the seasons, the Winters in Vermont at Bromley, the spring in Stuart Florida, but most of all, she loved her summers at Canada Lake.  No other Place made her happier than the “camp” at Canada Lake.  She loved the moonlight cruises and watching her children grow up on the lake with all the lake families and friends.  Dottie got to enjoy it a second time watching her grandchildren do the same.

Dottie’s greatest gift was the love she shared with her husband for the 55 years of marriage and the devotion and love she had shown to provide care and comfort during his long illness.  This same love was always felt by all her friends and family and in her later years Jim got to experience this extraordinary love.

Dorothea is survived by her daughter: Leslie Jean (Matthew) Smrtic; her grandchildren: Andrea (Tyler) Reynolds, Matthew Smrtic, and William Smrtic; a great granddaughter: Anja Reynolds; a sister: Patricia (Mark) Coloney; her partner: James R. Zeitler; and two special nieces: Rebecca (Todd) Clarkin and Deborah Deming.  She is also survived by her Sister-in-laws Linda (Grayson) Drexel and Cindy (Graham) Lewis; as well as several other nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband: William A. Studenic; her parents: Hallock B. and Dorothea Alvord; and her two sons: Alfred Studenic and Andrew Studenic and her sister-in-law; Maryann (George) Gargiulo.

The family will receive relatives and friends for a period of visitation from 10:00AM to 12:00PM, on Friday, November 11, 2022 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville.
