David Degnan

Obituary of David Degnan

Mr. David A. Degnan, age 79, of Gloversville, New York, died on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Fulton Center in Gloversville following a long illness.

He was born on January 22, 1943 in Gloversville, the son of Stanley and Lena (Gifford) Degnan, and graduated from Gloversville High School. He served in the US Army from 1961 - 1964 as part of the Army Corps of Engineers, spending most of his tour of duty in Germany and France. Later, David was employed as a lathe operator by the General Electric Company, of Schenectady, New York. He was a member of the Perth Bible Church as well as the VFW Post 8690 of Broadalbin, New York.

David loved his community, and volunteered with the Boy Scouts for Gloversville Troop 15, and served as a past coach for the Gloversville Little League. He loved vacationing in Maine in late spring and early fall and he was passionate about athletics, enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and NASCAR, golfing at local country clubs as well as watching on tv, but nothing compared to his love of the New York Giants Football team, for which he was a proud armchair quarterback. Nothing, that is, but his love for spending time hanging out with his family, especially his beloved granddaughter.

David is survived by his wife: Kathleen A. Degnan; his son: Daniel Degnan, his granddaughter: Danica Degnan, and a sister: Joan (Guy) Ciaccio, as well as nieces, nephews and many cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents: Stanley and Lena Degnan, and a sister: Patricia Steffens.

Services for David will be held privately by his family at their convenience.

Contributions may be made in memory of David to either the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Rd., Gloversville, NY 12078, or to the Perth Bible Church, 1863 County Highway 107, Amsterdam, New York 12010.
