Obituary of Adeline Somers

Adeline “Dolly” Somers, 93, of Hagaman, NY died peacefully on Monday, January 2, 2023.  Born on May 30, 1929 in Amsterdam, NY she was a daughter of the late Vincent and Clara Farina.

 

A lifelong area resident, Dolly was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Class of 1947.  Dolly was employed as a cashier working for P&C Markets, Mr. Discount and lastly, Super K-Mart, before her retirement.

 

In 1949, she was united in marriage to Leslie Somers Sr.  That union was blessed with 38 years, until his untimely passing in 1987.  She was also predeceased by her children, Leslie Jr., Clorinda, and infant daughter Mary Jo; as well as her brothers, Frank, Carlo, John and Anthony Farina; and her sisters, Rachel Farina, Yolanda Kameka, Suzie Bennice and Mary Josephine Marotta.

 

Dolly was devoted to her family and proud of her Italian heritage.  She was a great cook, who always had an extra plate of food for anyone who would stop by.  She was a devout member of St. Stephen’s Church and enjoyed playing cards, bingo and cross word puzzles.  Dolly enjoyed visits from her friends, Joan Sheehan and Nancy Muscato.  She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her children, Kenneth and Barbara Somers, Joseph and Claudia L. Somers, and Richard and Maria Somers, all of Amsterdam, NY; her daughter-in-law, Claudia M. Somers of Amsterdam, NY; her brother, Vincent Farina. She was “Granny” to Marisa Somers, Joe and Brittany Somers, Steven and Maria Somers, and Stephanie Somers.  Her great grandchildren Emma, Benjamin and Connor; and her beloved grand pups, Gracie, Simba, Obie, Oakley; and her grand kitty, Rocky; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.   

A special thanks to her daughter-in-law, Claudia L. Somers for her caregiving love, and compassion over the past few years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 11a.m. at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church with the The Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. as celebrant.  Burial will follow in the parish cemetery in the family plot.  A calling hour will precede the Mass beginning at 10a.m. at the church.  All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church, 51 N. Pawling Street, Hagaman, NY 12086.
