Obituary of Irene Florence Viola

Irene Florence Viola age 94, of Gloversville, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville.

She was born January 12, 1929 in Amsterdam, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Myers. She was married to Dominic S. Viola for 74 years who recently passed away on October 22, 2022.

Irene was a housewife for many years and later worked at the Fulton County National Bank (now NBT) in the Comptroller's Office until she retired. She loved to down-hill and cross-country ski, later in life took up golfing and was an avid swimmer. She enjoyed traveling, was a member of the Ida McGinnis Club, and a member of the women's group of the Church of the Holy Spirit.

Irene is survived by her three children, Barbara Hryniak, Ralph (Pamela) Viola, Sandra Tallon (Richard Praetorius), a sister in-law, Angelina (Viola) Szurek, five grandchildren, Ralph Viola Jr., Peter Hryniak Jr., Dominic Viola, Christopher Tallon and Patrick Tallon; great-grandchildren, Zachary Tallon, Travis Tallon, Adriana Tallon, Makenna Tallon, Mason Tallon, Blake Viola, Harper Viola, Leighton Viola and Beckett Viola, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Mary Myers; siblings, Barbara (Myers) Greco, Shirley (Myers) Logan, Richard Myers and son-in-law Peter Hryniak Sr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:30 am Friday, April 28th at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 153 S. Main St; Gloversville, followed by interment at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Johnstown.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care 108 Steele Avenue Gloversville, NY 12078.
