Obituary of Thomas J. Lais

Thomas J. Lais, 83, of Amsterdam, NY passed away Friday, March 24th, 2023, at St Mary’s Hospital.

Thomas was born at home on April 16th, 1939 in Amsterdam, NY to the late Joseph and Lolita (Bellows) Lais. He was always an Amsterdam local and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch Literacy Academy. After school, Thomas served in the United States Air Force from 1960 until his honorable discharge in 1962. Upon returning home, he worked as a steam fitter for General Electric in Schenectady, NY for over 30 years.

Thomas was united in marriage to his loving wife Rosemary of 53 years on May 11th, 1968. They spent their many years together until her passing on October 2nd, 2021.

Thomas was known to love the outdoors, and enjoyed his time hunting, fishing and racing with his family. Another pastime he enjoyed was bowling, and he did so for many years prior to his passing.

Thomas is predeceased by his wife Rosemary Lais; parents Joseph and Lolita Lais; sons Peter and Joseph Lais; and brothers Chet and Richard Lais.

He is survived by his sons Jay and Patrick (Cathy) Lais.

A Service of Remembrance will take place on Thursday, March 30th, 2023, at 11a.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam 12010.
