Obituary of Jon Patricia Harris

Jon Patricia Harris R.N., passed away peacefully on April 26, 2023. Jon was born in Amsterdam NY on April 29^th, 1952 to parents Miriam Dunham Murkey and John Murkey.  She attended Fonda Fultonville Central School in Fonda, NY and was a graduate of St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Amsterdam, NY in 1979.  

Jon Worked as a Registered Nurse and was employed at several area hospitals including St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, NY as an obstetrical nurse; Amsterdam Memorial Hospital as an Administrative Nursing Supervisor; Albany Medical Center as an Administrative Nursing Supervisor; Bellvue Women’s Hospital as a Patient Care Coordinator and Ellis Hospital as an Administrative Nursing Supervisor.  She retired from the State of NY in 2011, working for over 20 years as a civil servant for the following agencies; New York State Office of Children & Family Services, New York State Office of Temporary & disability Assistance, New York State Department of Correctional Services, Sate University of New York at Delhi, University at Albany and New York State Office of Mental Health at Capital District Psychiatric Center.

Jon loved the ocean and the beach.  She loved to read and took particular interest in all things Camelot and Royal family.  She was also an avid lover of animals and loved her pets tremendously.   Jon loved her family fiercely and was especially proud of her grandchildren.  Jon is predeceased by her parents and two sisters.  Survivors include her husband Wilbert P. Harris who she married on October 12, 1996.  Also surviving are children, Christopher Dunlavey (Jaqueline) of North Greenbush, NY,  Tracy Miller (Andrew) of Tribes Hill, NY, Robyn Dunlavey (Michael Stewart) of Tribes Hill, NY.   Grandchildren,  Alexandra and Abigale Dunlavey of North Greenbush, NY, Joshua and Logan Miller of Tribes Hill, NY,  Kyla (Nate) Craig of Fonda, NY, Kasandra, Jocelyn and Jordan Miller of Tribes Hill, NY.  Sisters, Kathleen Rule Keane of Amsterdam, NY, Linda Rule (Scott Bergh) of Ballston Spa, NY.  Great-grandson Jaxon Craig of Fonda, NY,  along with several nieces, nephews and cousins and other family members. 

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday May 2, 2023 at 7:00 PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, with Rev. Bonnie M. Orth presiding.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday prior to the funeral service from 5:00 to 7:00PM at the funeral home.  Private interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, NY.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery County SPCA, PO Box 484, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave, Menands, NY 12204.   Please leave condolences online at www.brbsfuneral.com.
