Obituary of Joseph A. McCoski

Amsterdam - Joseph A . McCoski passed peacefully on June 2, 2023 surrounded by his family. Joe was born on May 6, 1928, to parents Anna McCoski (Zawisza) and Joseph McCoski.

After graduating high school from Amsterdam, Joe served in the United States Army from 1950-1952. During this time, he was stationed in Korea where he acted as a Forward Observer. His service earned him the Combat Infantry Badge, the Korean Service Metal with 2 Bronze Stars, the UN service Metal.

Joe’s acts of service extended beyond the military and into his community. Over his lifetime, he served as the President of Suburban Baseball, the President of the Perth Youth Commission for 20+ years and a member for another 10+ years. He was a high school football referee, a Little Giants referee, and a Cub Scout Leader. His dedication to his community and passion for sports were well recognized by his peers. In 1993, the Town of Perth honored his volunteer work, naming a softball field “McCoski Field”. His honors also include his 1999 induction into the Little Giants Hall of Fame, honorary membership into the New York State Association of Certified Football Officials-Capital District Chapter, and membership in the Polish American Veterans. Though a busy member of his community, Joe never missed his grandchildren’s sporting events. Whether it be a home swim meet or an away softball/baseball game, Dziadzio was an avid fan.

Joe is preceded by his wife, Marguerite McCoski (Smida), and his brother, Bernard McCoski.  He is survived by his son, William McCoski (Kimberly Ilnicki); grandchildren, Sarah McCoski (William Stetson) and Ethan McCoski (Maggie Seiple); sister, Florence Aldi (McCoski); brother, Fred McCoski; nieces and nephews; and numerous friends he made throughout his life.

Calling hours for Joe will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 4pm to 7pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 10am at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, New York.
