Denice Claire

Obituary of Denice Ann Claire

Denice Ann Claire, 65, life-long resident of Northampton, New York, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Denice was born on November 21, 1957 to the late Glendon and Dorothy (Patten) Claire.

Denice spent her career working in many local restaurants. She spent many years at the Old Trail Inn, working as a waitress, bartender, and cook. At one time, Denice owned and operated Remo’s in Edinburg, and had been working at the American Legion Post 137 in Gloversville prior to her retirement.

She will be forever remembered for her loving, generous, and loyal nature. Denice was always willing to go out of her way to help anyone in need, and never expected anything in return. Since she never expected her favors to be returned, Denice often kept to herself and was a private person when it came to her own personal struggles. She was a loyal friend and mother, who adored her children and grandchildren. Denice loved spending time in the sun, dancing, and visiting Saratoga Race Course; she went to the track every Sunday during race season with the love of her life, Stephen.

Her loving family includes her beloved, Stephen Lyons, with whom she has spent the past 27 years; her children, William Edwards and Brandi (DJ) Jones; her step-daughter, Cassondra Lyons; her grandchildren, Zachary and Raylynn Jones; step-grandchildren, Arianna and Isaiah Allen, and Karter Ryle; her brothers, James (Jacqueline), Keith (Mary), and Craig (Lori) Claire; her mother-in-law, Sandra Lyons; her life-long best friend, Sue, who she loved dearly; her former husband and friend, William (Robin Horton) Edwards, who were there to help her right up to the end of her life; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Aside from her parents, Glendon and Dorothy, Denice is preceded in passing by her brothers, Wayne and Glenny Claire.

A Celebration of Denice’s life will be held at a later date, to be announced. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave, Gloversville, New York 12078.
