Obituary of Anderson Allen

Mr. Anderson "Dick" Allen of St. Johnsville, NY died peacefully on December 27, 2017. He was 89. A lifelong area resident, Dick was born on June 28, 1928 in Ames, NY to Demyron and Lucy LaGrange Allen. Following the death of his dad, Dick quit school and went into the workforce to provide for his family. During the Korean Conflict he served proudly with the United States Army and honorably discharged. He worked as a meat cutter and manager for several entities including, Victory Market, Chicago Markets, BiLo Markets and Great American. Many local farmers and hunters also called on Dick for his meat cutting expertise. Above all, he loved his family dearly and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his children, John Allen of Brooklyn, NY, Richard Allen (Hedy Stockler) of Clifton Park, NY, and Shari Allen of Herkimer, NY; three sisters, Irene Wiers, Shirley Estenich and June Dunckel; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Grace L. Gallow Allen on December 3, 2017; and his siblings, Peggy Sawchuk, Herbert Allen, George Allen, Marion Lehtonen, Geraldine Skandera, Edith Brown and Elizabeth Wall. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 1p.m. at Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. Relatives and invited and may call on Tuesday prior to the service beginning at 11a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Sandflats, Fonda, NY.
