Obituary of Barbara J. Lomanto

Barbara Lomanto, 64, of Gloversville, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Gloversville on September 27, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Betty Lebenheim Lomanto. She was a 1971 graduate of Gloversville High School and also graduated from FMCC and SUNY at Cortland. Barb was a social studies teacher at St. Johnsville Central School for 31 years and was the yearbook advisor for many years. She enjoyed her years of teaching and making dear friends through her teaching. Barb was always supportive of her students, making a difference in many of their lives. She enjoyed summers at the camp on West Caroga Lake and keeping in touch with lifelong friends. She was a very kind and caring person. She was always concerned about others and did for others. She was best known for "Aunt Barb's" cookies that she shared with family and friends. Barb is survived by a sister, Mary Jo; a brother, William (Kayoko); and nephews Michael "Chester" and Kazuma. The family will receive relatives and friends from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 20 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville. A celebration of Barb's life is being planned for July at Caroga Lake. Memorial contributions can be given to the Barbara Lomanto Memorial Scholarship Fund for OESJ Central Schools; sent to William Lomanto, 160 Prospect Ave; Gloversville, NY 12078.
